Patriarch John X calls on the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.) to hold its next meeting in Damascus

DAMASCUS, DEC.23, (ST)- The Patriarch of Antioch and All East for the Roman Orthodox, John X (Yazigi), has asserted that the friendly relations between Orthodox Churches in Syria and Russia are deeply rooted. 
 
The Patriarch’s remarks came during his meeting with Russian religious and parliamentary delegation headed by Dmitry Sablin, the Chairman of Syrian-Russian Friendship Committee.  
 
He referred to Russia’s support for Syria in its war against terrorism . 
 
The Patriarch underscored the need to cement the relations between the peoples of the two friendly countries and called on the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.)  to hold its coming meeting in Damascus, appreciating Russian friends’ support to the people of Syria.
 
For their part, the Russian delegation’s members stressed the importance of strengthening the relations between the churches and peoples of Russia and Syria, hoping that religious tourism will return to Syria as stability and peace return to its lands.
