Sabbagh receives UNFPA’s representative in Syria

DAMASCUS, DEC.23, (ST)- Speaker of the People’s Assembly [Parliament] Hammodah Sabbagh received on Thursday the representative of The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Syria Iyad Naser. 
 
The Speaker asserted during the meeting the need to lift the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, shedding light on the negative impacts of these measures on the life of the Syrian citizens. 
 
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Sabbagh referred to the role of the UNFPA in Syria and the importance of enhancing cooperation in all fields, especially humanitarian and educational ones and Child’s rights and Woman’s empowerment.
 
He indicated that the Parliament adopted several laws and legislations that support Woman’s rights and her role in building society. 
 
For his part, Naser said that cooperation with the Syrian side contributed to consolidating the work of the Fund in Syria within the framework of the efforts being exerted to offer assistance to the Syrians and to reduce their suffering. 
 
He spoke highly about the parliament’s role in supporting and developing the role of woman in society.
