“Letters” Recycling exhibition to revive Heritage

“A needle and thread” group for traditional fabrics is currently holding its annual exhibition at Abou Rumaneh Cultural center in Damascus under the motto “letters”.

Beautiful and useful works from the remnants of damaged fabrics and clothes were presented by 12 women from the “Needle and thread ” group, reflecting the talents of Syrian woman, and her ability to make valuable things.

Jacqueline Farah, the supervisor of group, told Syria Times: “This is our sixth exhibition. Our work depends on recycling fabrics to revive this heritage that exists in all countries of the world”.

“Our group was established in 2011, at the beginning of the crisis in Syria. We made new and useful things from old fabrics,” Farah added.

 “The Exhibition displayed handmade products such as table covers, pillows, bed linen, and others. The importance of the exhibition is to revive this kind of heritage and empower women to be self-reliant,” she said.

 Hasnaa Saeed, a participant and a member in “Needle and Thread” group, told Syria Times: “We are in this group like bees, collecting nectar to produce honey. The aim of the exhibition is to revive the heritage and habits of our grandmothers and mothers and to take advantage of damaged things”.

“We want to revive it in an academic way. A Woman who works fills her free time with useful things and refines her creativity and talent. I offered  hand-made bed linen and a canvas” she said.

Riham Dalatieh, has been participating in this event since 2016. She displayed a bed linen and a pillow. She aimed from her participation to support women works.
