Lavrov: Washington should withdraw its occupation troops from Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stressed that the American military presence in Syria is illegal.

In an interview on Wednesday, Lavrov said that Washington should withdraw its forces from Syria as they threaten stability in the country and loot the resources of the Syrians.

Lavrov asserted that the real goal behind the presence of the US occupation forces in Syria is to control the oil resources in the northeast of Syria and to support the separatists there. He pointed out that at the end the Americans will leave Syria and the SDF militia should realize this fact.

In a different context, Lavrov announced that the talks regarding the security guarantees proposed by Moscow to NATO and the United States will start by the beginning of 2022.

He went on to say that next month, Moscow plans to activate a negotiating platform to discuss the Russian proposals for concluding a security agreement with NATO, pointing out that President Vladimir Putin discussed this issue with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and the new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz recently and assured them that Moscow would raise the issue of security guarantees for discussion within the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
