Damascus (ST): The meeting of the Special Adviser at the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, with the new Executive Office of the Union of Journalists headed by Musa Abdel Nour focused on the role of journalists at this stage, especially in terms of addressing citizens’ issues and confronting the continuous attempts of hostile parties to sabotage the country.

Dr. Shaaban stressed the importance of journalistic work as a public work that embraces issues of society and public affairs, and the role of journalists as a front for the nation, stressing the need to strengthen the relationship of trust between the journalist and all state institutions, and for the journalist to be in constant contact with decision-makers.

Dr. Shaaban indicated that boldness is required in journalistic work in order to address the issues of the homeland and improve conditions. She said: “In the face of contradictory social manifestations, we have no choice but to adhere to our principles and our work because the hostile parties seek to sabotage our homeland.”

Dr. Shaaban drew attention to the need to document the events that took place during the war and the media attack on Syria by malicious sides, and the great sacrifices of media professionals and journalists through a joint committee between the Union of Journalists and the Homeland Document Foundation, calling for taking proactive steps to confront what the enemies of Syria are doing in the media, culture and education fields, especially in the areas under occupation, where it seeks to change the national identity of Syrian citizens.
