The United Nations renews the majority vote on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination

New York (ST): The United Nations General Assembly in New York renewed, by an overwhelming majority, a resolution supporting the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

Wafa news agency reported that the resolution was adopted by a majority of 168 countries who voted in favor of the resolution, four countries opposed it and the Israeli occupation entity, and ten countries abstained. The Palestine Mission to the United Nations stated that the resolution reaffirms the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to have their own independent state, Palestine.

The statement added, “The resolution also emphasizes the urgent need to  end of the Israeli occupation and achieve a just and comprehensive settlement based on the relevant United Nations resolutions.”

The Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said that this vote indicates an international consensus to support the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people, and also confirms the international community’s support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people despite the occupation measures and the pressure of the US to bring about a change in this principled and consistent international position.
