Literary Forum in Damascus on The Occasion of The Arabic Language Day

On the occasion of the International Day of the Arabic Language, the Ministry of Education and the Governorate of Damascus organized this Thursday a literary forum entitled “The Arabic Language… Communication and Creativity” at Al-Kamal Café in Damascus.

The Minister of Education Dr. Darem Tabbaa cleared out in his speech that choosing the Café as a location to host the forum aims at restoring brilliance to this old monument of Damascus city as the Cafe used to be the meeting place for writers, poets and intellectuals. The Minister pointed out that the Arabic language is the incubator of Arab culture and civilization and an essential part of the Arab identity.

In turn, Damascus Governor, Engineer Adel Al-Olabi, highlighted the importance of preserving the Arabic language and upgrading it as a language of thought and science. The Governor further stressed the Governorate’s readiness to  contribute to any project to support the Arab language empowerment among new generations.

The first instructor of the Arabic language at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Mustafa Anis Al-Hassoun, explained that the forum is in line with the policy of the Ministry and the Arabic Language Empowerment Committee in spreading linguistic culture and making Arabic fluent and popular in society.

The International Day of the Arabic Language is celebrated on the 18th of December each year.  The celebrations for this year are organized under the title “The Arabic Language and Civilized Communication” as a call to reaffirm the important role played by this language in building bridges of communication between people with culture, science and literature. Arabic has been leading a historical role as a tool to create and transmit knowledge, as well as a means to promote dialogue.
