Agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency

The spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Behrouz Kamalvandi, announced that the re-installation of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s surveillance cameras in the “Tsa” complex in the city of Karaj, west of Tehran, will take place after careful technical, security and judicial checks have been carried out on them.

Kamalvandi made a statement today Thursday that after recent talks between the head of the Iranian Nuclear Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, it was decided that the latter would cooperate to conduct a thorough examination of the surveillance cameras that will be re-installed in the TSA complex, west of Tehran.

Kamalvandi added that this procedure is done for the purpose of reassurance that saboteurs will not use the cameras of the International Agency, pointing out that the two sides also agreed to provide the Iranian side with one of the cameras for the purpose of careful technical supervision, and that the experts of the International Agency would respond to the inquiries of Iranian security specialists about these cameras.

Kamalvandi pointed out that these procedures are carried out in accordance with the strategic procedure law ratified by the Islamic Consultative Assembly to Protect The Interests of The People, which stipulates restricting the inspections of the International Atomic Energy Agency within the limits of the safeguards agreement, noting that the data collected by the cameras will be kept in sealed slides and the IAEA will not be allowed to get it unless the objective of this law is achieved.

In December 2020, the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly approved the guidelines of the Strategic Measures Law to abolish the embargo and protect Iranian interests.
