Syrian-Polish Talks for Cooperation in IT Technology, Digital Transformation

In a meeting held on Tuesday with the Polish Prime Minister’s High Representative for European Digital Policy Christoph Schubert, the Minister of Communications and Technology Iyad Al-Khatib, discussed means of cooperation between the two countries in terms of enhancing digital infrastructure and the exchange of expertise.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 16th Internet Governance Forum in the Polish city of Katowice where Minister Al-Khatib reviewed the possibilities of cooperation between the Ministry of Communications and Technology in Syria and the counterpart authority in the Polish government in order to provide all available means of benefiting from e-commerce applications and digital transformation.

In this respect, Minister Al-Khatib indicated that Syria is investing all available capabilities to enhance and develop the digital infrastructure and the appropriate legislation despite the unilateral coercive measures.

For his part, Schubert gave a presentation on the efforts undertaken by Poland to enhance the digital infrastructure stressing his country’s determination to exchange expertise with the world, which is one of the objectives of the forum. The Polish official thanked Minister Al-Khatib for inviting him to visit Syria, and asserted that he will coordinate in the future through diplomatic channels.

The meeting was attended by the Syrian Ambassador to Poland, Radwan Lutfi, and Dr. Anas Dahabeya, Director General of the National Authority for Network Services.

The activities of the 16th Internet Governance Forum were launched on Monday the 6th of December 2021 in Katowice, Poland, with the participation of Syria, represented by the Minister of Communications and Technology, Eng. Iyad Al-Khatib, and the accompanying delegation. The forum continues until December the tenth 2021.
