Russia, India stress firm commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria

New Delhi, (ST) – Russia and India reiterated their firm commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria

The two states stressed that there is no alternative to the political process led by Syria in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Indian capital New Delhi yesterday, “the two sides reaffirmed their firm commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria.

 They also reiterated that there is no alternative to the political process led and implemented by the Syrians themselves with the help of the United Nations, according to UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

The statement stressed the need to secure comprehensive humanitarian aid for all Syrians without politicization or preconditions, as stipulated in Security Council Resolution No. 2585.

The statement also called for comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council to reflect contemporary global realities and make it more representative, effective and efficient in addressing international peace and security issues.
