Wounded military athletes’ participation in sports activities will be enhanced

DAMASCUS, Dec.30, (ST)-The participation of the wounded military personnel in sports activities that are being held in Syria  and abroad will be enhanced , according to an agreement signed on Wednesday by the project of “Jareeh Al-Watan” [The wounded on military operations in the Homeland] and the General Sports Federation (SGF).

The joint cooperation agreement provides for offering all types of support in the field of sports to all wounded athletes with different disabilities , who are included in the project.

The types of support are: improving the physical and psychological conditions of the wounded athletes and rehabilitating them to be active in sports through providing them with necessary sports equipment and holding periodical training camps.

On August, 20, 2021, the First Jareeh Al-Watan (the Wounded of the Homeland) Sports Games was opened At Al-Assad Sports City in Lattakia in the presence of First Lady, Mrs. Asma Al-Assad.

Mrs. Asma Al-Assad said then  that the wounded personnel are capable of removing all obstacles and of moving on, expressing her pride in the spirit of challenge that the participants in the “Jareeh Al-Watan” [ The wounded of the Homeland] Sports Games has. 

“I am proud of your spirit of challenge, which has made you remain strong and steadfast after injury …It is the same spirit that has made you overcome all obstacles,” Mrs. Al-Assad said addressing the wounded athletes, who are participating in the sport games.

She indicated that the importance of the activity of the “Wounded of the Homeland” Games does not only come from the fact that it is being  held for the first time, but from consolidating the reality that the wounded are capable of moving on, and this is not just a slogan, but a reality with their will and solidarity.

“Through your participation in this activity, you convey a message of hope and resilience, this is a message that everyone should learn from you,” Mrs. Al-Assad added.
