Hasakeh (ST): Hasakah Governor Ghassan Khalil called during his meeting with South African Ambassador to Syria Barry Philip Gilder and the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund “UNICEF” Boviktor Nylund on all countries to retrieve their nationals detained inside the camps, expressing the willingness of the Syrian government to provide everything necessary to implement humanitarian tasks in this regard.
During the meeting, the governor said: We call on all countries to retrieve their nationals detained in the camps, resettle them in their countries, and reintegrate them again, as they have been heavily involved in terrorism, and this poses a great danger in the future for the region and its countries.
In turn, the South African ambassador said in a statement to the media that they are here today with the aim of releasing 16 South African women and children detained in a camp within the city of Al-Malikiyah in the Hasakeh countryside.
Ambassador Gilder affirmed that South Africa is seeking and will continue to work with the Syrian government to determine the fate of the rest of its nationals, and said, “South Africa insisted on resettling its nationals through the Syrian government and refused negotiations to release them across the border. The relations between South Africa and Syria are good and distinguished, and the nationals will be received within the near future.”
