Caracas (ST): The President of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela Pedro Calzadela announced today the victory of the candidates of the United Socialist Party headed by Nicolás Maduro in the local and municipal elections that took place yesterday.
The Venezuelan Telesur channel quoted Calzadela as saying: “The candidates of the United Socialist Party won in 20 states out of 23, while the opposition won in only three states,” noting that the turnout in the elections amounted to 41.80 percent.
For his part, President Maduro said in a statement: “He did not disturb the electoral process, and the international observers were moving freely throughout the country to verify the electoral process,” adding: It is a victory for the humble people, the noble people of Venezuela, who suffered a brutal war.
Millions of Venezuelans participated yesterday in the municipal and local elections, which witnessed a good turnout in light of the participation of opposition forces and the presence of international observers, where 21 million out of 30 million Venezuelans were invited to vote to choose their representatives.
