The United Nations reaffirms the right of the Palestinian people to permanent sovereignty over their resources

New York (ST): The United Nations General Assembly, by a majority, adopted a resolution affirming the right of the Palestinian people to permanent sovereignty over their natural resources.

 

Wafa news agency reported that the General Assembly adopted the resolution “Permanent Sovereignty of the Palestinian People in the Occupied Palestinian Territory” based on the recommendation of the Second Economic and Financial Committee with a majority of 157 votes, in opposition to the Israeli occupation entity and six countries, while 14 countries abstained.

In its resolution, the General Assembly reaffirmed the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to their natural resources, including land, water and energy resources.

The resolution affirmed that the occupation authorities’ construction of the apartheid wall and settlements in the West Bank constitutes a violation of international law and deprives the Palestinian people of their natural resources, calling on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to present at the next session of the General Assembly a report on the implementation of this resolution and the cumulative impact For the occupation authorities to exploit the natural resources of the Palestinians in the occupied land.
