Yesterday, the National Committee for Cancer Control and the Society of Oncologists of the Russian Federation signed a scientific cooperation agreement.
Dr. Arwa Al-Azmeh, chairperson of the National Committee for Cancer Control, and Dr. Andrei Kaprin, President of the Association of Oncologists in the Russian Federation signed the agreement at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.
The agreement includes training medical personnel in the fields of cancer prevention and treatment, holding joint scientific research, seminars and conferences related to oncology in all its fields.
The agreement provides training opportunities for a number of doctors and technicians in Russia on radiotherapy, oncological surgery, follow-up of oncological patients in intensive care, and provides training opportunities for a number of doctors and technicians in Russia.
The two sides will also cooperate under the agreement in the field of blood stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.
Dr. Arwa Al-Azma stated that the agreement is of great importance for the development of oncology in Syria and to benefit from the Russian expertise.
Dr. Arwa Al-Azma indicated that within the framework of the agreement, four medical physicists from Al-Biruni Hospital will participate in an intensive 6-week training course in Russia that includes training in radiation therapy for cancer.
The agreement comes within the activities of the joint Syrian-Russian meeting to follow up on the work of the international conference on the return of Syrian refugees.
