Launching the first electronic health insurance platform for students in Syria

On November 15th, the National Union of Syrian Students, in cooperation with the Syrian General Insurance Corporation and a brokerage company for insurance services, launched the electronic platform for health insurance service for students in Syrian public and private universities and higher and technical institutes.

The platform provides its services through four insurance programs:

1- Personal accidents such as death as a result of an accident, permanent total and partial disability, medical expenses resulting from accidents.
2- Silver insurance, which includes “coverages within the hospital” such as surgeries and emergency cases
3- Golden insurance, which includes “coverages inside and outside the hospital” such as doctor visits, examinations and medicines.
4- Diamond insurance, in which there is no financial limit for insurance, and the student bears 15% of the medicines and external examinations.

The platform allows immediate registration on health insurance and aims, according to the explanations of those in charge of it, to provide health care, secure its costs, reduce the financial burden on students by providing appropriate insurance prices for them, and exempt students participating from taxes on the insurance contract.

In a statement to reporters, Darin Suleiman, Chairperson of the National Union of Syrian Students stated that the union launched the platform in cooperation with partners from the private sector such as banks.

In turn, Director of Wasata Insurance Services Company Nour Ahmed Qouqo explained that health insurance is a student demand in light of the high costs of medical services

Last October, the National Union of Syrian Students and the Syrian General Insurance Corporation signed a cooperation agreement to launch a health insurance service for Syrian university students, to be accomplished through a brokerage company for insurance services
