Discussions about the mechanisms for the settlement of the Russian vaccine industry in Syria

On November 14th, Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh met with the head of the Russian Federation of Health Importers and Exporters Association, Dmitry Umotnykh.

Both sides discussed the joint measures that can be taken to localize the Russian biological vaccines industry in Syria, including vaccines against the emerging corona virus.

During the meeting, Umotnykhpresented a number of proposals for the possibility of implementing the project in the Arab Medical Company (Tamico) or one of the Syrian pharmaceutical companies in the private sector, and the possibility of training staff to implement the project, cooperating with specialized research centers and pharmaceutical factories in both countries and organizing the exchange of information and scientific and practical materials.

Minister Sabbagh welcomed the idea of the project and asked the Russian side to indicate the possibility of fully manufacturing the vaccine in Syria after clarification of the technical and financial aspects regarding the production line and follow-up coordination regarding the project with the ministries and relevant authorities such as the Ministry of Health and the Planning and International Cooperation Authority.

It was agreed to continue studying all the visions put forward to start the project with Tamico Company and the Ministry’s Production Directorate.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Industry, Eng. Bashar Zagloula, and the directors of the Chemical Corporation and Tamico Company.
