Syria, China for Speeding Electricity Cooperation

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis discussed  yesterday with the Chinese Ambassador in Damascus Zhang Xun ways to enhance cooperation between Syria and China in electricity  investment and follow up the implementation of contracts and projects between the two sides.

The minister pointed out the interest of  the Syrian government to involve the largest number of Chinese companies in the  ministry’s tenders  for the supply and purchase of electricity sector needs , pointing out that the ministry , in spite of the crisis experienced by Syria , signed  several contracts with Arab and foreign companies for meeting  supply requirements of this sector, which has become the backbone of the Syrian economy.

He called  for finding  a mechanism to communicate with Chinese companies and encourage them to invest in Syria, noting that the  ministry is ready to send delegates to China and conduct meetings with Chinese companies and sign the necessary contracts. 

For his part, Chinese Ambassador  stressed  deep  relations between the two countries in various fields, pointing out that the Chinese government attaches great importance to cooperation with Syria, particularly in the field of electric power which constitutes the bulk of the existing cooperation between the two sides.

He indicated that the Chinese Embassy in Damascus will make concerted efforts with companies and stakeholders in China to continue the implementation of projects and contracts in the  interests of both sides as well as coordination between the Ministry of Electricity in Syria and representatives of Chinese companies  whose projects  were affected due to the crisis conditions that Syria is going through.
