Beijing calls on Washington to adopt a reasonable policy

Beijing (ST: China called on the United States today to adopt a logical and pragmatic policy towards it, stressing that competition between the two sides should observe the basic rules governing international relations.

In response to US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan’s statements about his country’s intention to compete vigorously with China across multiple dimensions, the Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin as saying that “the United States should properly look at the nature of Chinese-US relations which should be  mutually beneficial and works to strengthen dialogue and communication, deepen cooperation between the two countries, properly manage differences, and follow the path of mutual respect.”

The competition between the two countries should be based on observance of the basic rules governing international relations, Wang said, expressing China’s strong opposition to unfair competition in which such competition is used as a pretext to undermine the sovereignty of other countries, interfere in their internal affairs and deprive them of their legitimate rights and interests.
