President al-Assad in a telephone conversation with the Chinese President: Syria is keen to develop the relations between the two countries

Damascus (ST): President Bashar al-Assad made a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which they discussed the close bilateral relations and ways to expand the horizons of cooperation between them.

During the call, it was stressed the great importance that the Syrian and Chinese sides attach to developing these relations, as President al-Assad considered that the relationship with China is pivotal and important in order to support the Syrian people in their steadfastness against internationally supported terrorism, and in the face of the siege that has greatly affected various aspects of their life. 

President al-Assad affirmed Syria’s keenness to develop the relationship between government institutions in the two countries, especially with the improvement of the security situation in most regions, and at the same time joining the Belt and Road Initiative, which constitutes a path for economy and development and a new way for countries to deal with each other in order to link the common destiny of peoples and humanity.

President al-Assad expressed the Syrian people’s appreciation for China’s political support for them in international forums, which confirms China’s commitment to international law and world peace and the efforts it is making to preserve the territorial integrity of Syria and stop the terrorist war on it.

President al-Assad also thanked the Chinese president for the great humanitarian assistance provided by China to the Syrian people to alleviate their suffering in light of terrorism and the siege they are suffering from, reiterating that Syria is determined to liberate its entire territory from terrorists and occupied foreign armies, while at the same time following up the process of dialogue between the parties without foreign interference until full stability is reached.

President al-Assad congratulated his Chinese counterpart on the fiftieth anniversary of China’s restoration of its legitimate seat at the United Nations, which represents a victory for the right of the Chinese people and reflects the importance of the constructive role that China plays on the international scene and its contribution to peace and development in the world, stressing that Syria stands by China in the face of Western campaigns that is trying to strike stability in Southeast Asia and the South China Sea because today the world needs peace and development, not tension and threats.

For his part, the Chinese president considered that the friendship between China and Syria is rooted in the depth of history and that Syria is one of the first Arab countries to establish diplomatic relations with China, and it is one of the countries that put forward the draft resolution on restoring China’s legitimate seat in the United Nations, pointing out that over the sixty-five years since establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries, bilateral relations withstand the tests of changes in international situations, and the friendship between the two countries grows stronger with the passage of time. The two countries also adhere to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, reject hegemony and power politics, and maintain common interests.

The Chinese president stressed that his country is ready to make efforts to enhance friendly cooperation between the two countries and achieve more joint achievements and that the Chinese side firmly supports the Syrian efforts for reconstruction and development, welcoming the Syrian side’s participation in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Chinese president said that his country supports the struggle of the Syrians in defending the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of their country, categorically rejects the interference of external forces in Syria’s internal affairs, and urges the immediate lifting of unilateral sanctions and the economic blockade imposed on Syria, considering that since the beginning of the terrorist war on Syria, the Syrian people have fought against hegemony with unwavering determination, and achieved an interim victory in its battle against terrorism, and began the reconstruction of the country, expressing his confidence that this people will overcome all dangers and challenges and will achieve new victories. 

President Xi expressed China’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the Syrian side in the field of security and combating terrorism, and in confronting the coronavirus pandemic, noting that the Chinese side will give Syria in the next stage a new batch of vaccines and medical equipment to help it control the pandemic.

President Xi thanked Syria for its unwavering support to China on all issues and pressures it is facing.
