Veteran and Young Artists take part in the “Artistic Icons” exhibition in Lattakia
Art may be created for a number of reasons and can be done purely for personal reasons. However, art is often made to be seen and an exhibition provides artists with a space to share their work and ideas with the public and with communities.
Exhibitions can be created to send a message, share an idea, make a point, display masterpieces or demonstrate talent .
Dar Al-Assad for Culture in Lattakia recently hosted a collective art exhibition under the title “ Artistic Icons” which exhibited varied and rich artistic experiences of veteran and young artists.
Twenty-seven artists and sculptors from Damascus and Lattakia displayed about forty artworks of different styles, themes, size, art schools and techniques used. The exhibits reflected the difference in experiences and expertise in oil, acrylic and charcoal colors, in addition to several sculptural works of different materials and subjects.
The supervisor of the exhibition plastic artist Fatima Sa’ei, who participated in two works about women, stressed in a statement to the Syriatimes e-newspaper the importance of holding the exhibition with the participation of artists from Damascus and Lattakia that provided a rich artistic, visual and aesthetic case for the exhibition .
The sculptor Mrs. Maha Yazaji told the Syriatimes e-newspaper “ My participation in the exhibition came through a sculpture work made of olive wood under the title “ a state of calm” .
She pointed out that her sculpture expressed the female’s need for peace , security and safety despite her strong character and her effective and successful roles in the life.
She highlighted the importance of such artistic activities which form a platform for artists to exchange experiences and introduce their different schools of art which they belong to.
The plastic artist, Muhammad al-Ruqoui, who participated in three works , expressed his happiness to participate in the exhibition alongside the artists of Lattakia, who present different experiences and various techniques, wishing that there would be permanent meetings with artists so that there would be knowledge of all experiences and from different governorates.
In turn, the plastic artist, Mo’ataz Al-Omari, who came from Damascus, believed that the collective exhibitions is a chance for the artist to see the works of his colleagues, which enriches the artist’s experiences.
He indicated that his participation in the exhibition came through two acrylic works, one of which dealt with the human issue in terms of intellectual and life and the Syrian suffering during the nine year of brutal war.
He added that his second work depicted the human relationship with the letter and its intellectual and philosophical implications.
The plastic artist Hussein Saqour, one of the exhibition’s supervisors and a participantwith two works about the female which he presented in an abstract expressionist style, said that the exhibition was comprehensive and included a set of experiences by prominent and ambitious young artists representing different schools presented with a beautiful artistic direction.
Director of Lattakia Culture Majd Sarem said in a statement to the Syriatimes e-newspaper “the exhibition comes within the framework of the directorate’s keenness on holding continuously artistic forums and exhibitions with the aim of attracting artists from different governorates to display their artistic experiences in addition to providing an opportunity for art lovers to learn about the experiences of art which contributes to raising the level of artistic and visual taste.
