Damascus hosts “Omani civilization” exhibition

With the aim of enhancing cultural relations and exchanging experiences in the field of museums between Syria and Oman, the national museum in Damascus has hosted various cultural activities entitled “Omani Day in Damascus”. 
 
The activities that kicked off today in cooperation with the Omani National Museum included an exhibition entitled “ Lights on Oman”, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA). 
 
The agency reported that the exhibition contains collections date back to Iron Age. 
 
It added that an attached agreement was signed to repair 30 Syrian antiquates, which date back to Palmyra civilization, by experts from the Russian “Hermitage” museum in the Omani capital. 
 
The repaired antiquates will be displayed in the Omani National museum to allow visitor to have an idea about the Syrian civilization. 
 
In 2019, Syria and Oman signed an agreement to preserve the Syrian heritage through repairing 175 Syrian museums’ collections that were damaged during the years of the terror war on Syria. 
 
The current activities in Damascus also include the restoration of 100 Bronze pieces and coins that date back to Romanian and Byzantine ages after they were borrowed to Oman to repair them. 
 
A documentary film on the history and civilizations of Oman was screened on the sidelines of the activities  during which several workers at the national museum in Damascus were honored by the Omani side. 
 
Minister of Culture Lubana Mshawweh said that the 6-month exhibition allows the Syrian people to be familiar with the Omani civilization. 
 
For his part, the Secretary-General of the National Museum in Oman Jamal Bin Hasan Al-Mosawi said that the exhibition is the first of its kind since 2007 and it shows museums’ collections and the deep-rooted brotherly relations between Oman and Syria.
