The Ministry of Culture inaugurates the Syrian Book Fair

“Our book is our tomorrow was the title of the Book Fair for this year” It opened on Tuesday at al-Assad National Library with participation from 48 public and private publishing houses.

The Book Fair contains more than 5,000 new titles in various cultural, political, economic, intellectual and literary fields. It will last until November 6th.

The Minister of Culture, Lubana Mshaweh, said to Syriatimes “After my tour in the fair, I was surprised by the type of book exhibited  and the modern techniques used  for  printed books. They are distinctive in form and content.

Some publishing houses started their work during the war period. Many believed that publishing houses declined or their owners traveled abroad. But the book fair proves the opposite, as some publishing houses began to defy all difficult circumstances and continued their work of printing, publishing and distribution.

The publishing profession is not a profitable commercial profession, but its intellectual returns are very large.

We must thank the owners of publishing houses for this big effort that pushes the cultural and intellectual work forward.

I hope that this important exhibition will meet a large number of visitors.

Dar Al-Hafiz is one of the publishing houses participating in the exhibition to Syriatimes

“Our house specializes in scientific and Islamic children’s books and various and purposeful stories. It contains distinct graphics that attract children of all ages.

We aim to give value to the paper book again  after the spread of electronics and children’s obsession with electronic games.

We try to attract the child and encourage him to read and learn in an enjoyable way.

The annual book fair is an opportunity for us to display our latest publications and market them to all Syrians.

Ahmed  is one of the visitors to the book fair and he said to syriatimes “I am studying medicine and looking for medical books which is contain  the latest achievements of medicine in the world

I bought some books that I will add to my library and they will help me in my practical experience in the future.
