China renews its support for Syria in the fight against terrorism

China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, reiterated the need to lift the unjust coercive measures imposed on Syria, end any illegal foreign presence on its territory, and support efforts for a political settlement of the crisis there.

In a speech during a session of the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Geng said that “Syria is still suffering from foreign occupation, unilateral coercive measures and terrorism,” stressing the need to immediately cancel the coercive measures because they contradict the efforts of the international community to resolve the crisis in it.

 

Geng expressed his country’s support for Syria in fighting terrorism, “which constitutes a scourge against humanity,” calling on the Security Council to take a clear position on terrorism in Syria and reject the double-standard policy in this regard.

With regard to the humanitarian situation, the representative of China called on the international community to pay great attention to this issue and help the Syrian people face multiple challenges, stressing in this context that unilateral coercive measures have exacerbated the economic and humanitarian conditions in Syria.
