Al-Miqdad receives credentials of UNIDO’s representative in Syria

DAMASCUS, (ST)_The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad received on Thursday the credentials of Emmanuel Kalenzi  representative  and head of the regional office responsible for coordinating projects of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Syria.
 
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the talks during the meeting between the two sides dealt with enhancing cooperation between Syria and the UNIDO through expanding the activities and projects which the organization implements in Syria  in the field of technical assistance and building.
 
Al-Miqdad affirmed that Syria is open to deepening cooperation and increasing the organization’s engagement in projects that aim to achieve industrial development and support the economy.
 
“It is important to have a resident representative in Syria to follow up on the work and the implemented projects,” the minister added. 
 
He stressed that the unilateral economic measures being imposed on the Syrian people have no basis in  international law, and they aim to harm the Syrian people and hinder development and the efforts of the Syrian state  and the United Nations to revive national economy and international development.
 
For his part, the representative of UNIDO underscored the Organization’s interest in cooperating with the Syrian government with the aim of improving citizens’ livelihood and early recovery efforts. 
 
He expressed his aspiration to carry out several new projects that would respond to the needs of the Syrian people in all areas covered by the Organization.
