Russia, Iran condemn terrorist bombing in Damascus

Moscow /Tehran, (ST) – Russia and Iran have condemned the terrorist bombing that targeted a military overnight bus in Damascus this morning.

“We firmly condemn this treacherous terrorist act, and we express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wish recovery to the injured,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

  The Russian Foreign Ministry considered that “this bloody crime is a blatant challenge aimed at questioning the ability of the authority in Syria to guarantee the security of the capital, provoking a new wave of violence and obstructing efforts to a political solution to the crisis in Syria.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated the importance of unifying the efforts of the international community in combating the global terrorist threat on the basis of international law and cooperating with the Syrian government in this field.

Iran also condemned the terrorist attack describing it as a cowardly act.

Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement: “such cowardly terrorist acts are doomed to failure as they can never weaken Syria’s determination to fight terrorism, liberate its lands and attain stability.”

He expressed Iran’s solidarity with the Syrian government and people and with the families of the victims.
