The prisons of the Erdogan regime are teeming with thousands of academics

Ankara (ST): Official data have revealed that thousands of graduate students and Ph D holders are languishing in the prisons of the regime of Turkish President Recep Erdogan, while his opponents from other parties face charges and prison sentences.

The Turkish newspaper Zaman reported that the statistics issued by the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Centers “CTE” in Turkey revealed that there are 460 Ph. D holders and 2,371 graduate students languishing in Turkish prisons on various charges.

The newspaper pointed out that while there are 449 faculty members who hold a doctorate degree at Bogazici University, there are 460 prisoners who hold a doctorate degree in Turkey’s prisons, meaning that there are more prisoners with a doctorate degree in Turkish prisons compared to those at Bogazici University.

According to the latest data, there are a total of 27,515 university graduates in the prisons of the Turkish regime, including about 20,000 convicts, after the number of convicts was about 4,000 in 2012.

Meanwhile, the Turkish opposition leader, Secretary of the Republican People’s Party in Istanbul, Janan Kaftancioglu, is facing the threat of imprisonment for up to more than two years for insulting the communications director of the Turkish Presidential Palace, Fahrettin Altun, after the Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against her.
