Moscow (ST): Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reiterated her country’s position calling for a political solution to the crisis in Syria, noting that her country’s stand stems from the importance of providing humanitarian aid to all Syrians without exception and in coordination with the Syrian government.
Zakharova indicated during a press conference that Moscow, with its partners, intends, under the Astana formula, to continue to contribute to advancing the political process in Syria on the basis of Resolution 2254, with the need for continuous measures to assist the constitutional discussion committee.
On the other hand, Zakharova confirmed that Moscow will respond to NATO’s decision to cancel the accreditation of the Russian mission’s crew with it through countermeasures that are being worked on, explaining that the decision was not surprising to Moscow, but rather the sudden “insolence of its presentation.”
Concerning NATO’s announcement to withdraw the accreditation of 8 diplomats from the Russian mission and reduce the size of the Russian mission in Brussels by half, Zakharova said, “The Russian side was officially notified of this on the 6th of October. Therefore, this step by NATO was not surprising, but it raised eyebrows for its rudeness and lack of explanation of official reasons.
Zakharova pointed out that it has become clear that NATO and its members do not want to cooperate, and fabricate an untrue story to break relations or bring them to a minimum, which leads to destabilization and creating conflict in the region.
