Starting projects to restore the Muzayrib Citadel and the corridors of the Roman Amphitheater in Daraa

On October 5th, the Department of Antiquities in the Governorate of Daraa started the implementation of the two restoration projects of the Muzayrib Citadel in its second phase and the corridors of the Roman Amphitheater in Daraa Al-Balad, at an estimated cost of 180 million Syrian pounds.

Head of the Department of Antiquities, Dr. Muhammad Khair Nasrallah, said in a statement that the two sites were duly handed over to a private contractor to carry out the required work, including dismantling and installing stone facades, presenting a carved stone similar to the main stone, moving soil, and implementing and presenting a traditional bench to support the stones from the back.

Nasrallah added that the works will be carried out according to the standards of restoration, using traditional methods, and with stones similar to the old ones.

Nasrallah explained that the emergency works to restore the corridors of the Roman amphitheater in Daraa al-Balad include dismantling, installing and presenting stone facades and vaults for the corridors of the amphitheater, digging and removing soil, implementing and presenting a traditional trench, crane works and stone equipment for the need to lift stones weighing more than a thousand kilograms, in addition to documentation work for the facades.

Nasrallah indicated that the Department of Antiquities is seeking to restore the Muzayribmill, according to the availability of financial resources , in order to protect the mill and preserve its archaeological reality.

Al Muzayrib Castle includes a group of sections such as the northern block and the seven towers, which are still well preserve.
