Al-Miqdad and Shabana discuss cooperation between Syria and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)
On October 4th , Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met with Dr. Louay Shabana, Director of the Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA).
The two sides discussed prospects of cooperation between the Syrian government and the UNFPA.
Minister Miqdad praised the existing cooperation between the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic and the United Nations Population Fund and the efforts made by the Fund to deal with national priorities and needs through continuous coordination and cooperation with the concerned official authorities.
Minister Miqdad also spoke about the dangerous consequences of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria by the United States, European Union countries and other parties, which negatively affect the lives and economic conditions of the Syrian people.
For his part, Shabana expressed his appreciation for the continuous cooperation between the Syrian government and the Fund and his gratitude for the facilities and support that the Fund enjoys from the Syrian government.
Shabana said that meeting the national needs is a priority for the management of the Fund in all programs and projects to serve national priorities.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Milad Attia, Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Special Office, Wael Ismail Khalil from the Organizations Department, and RoaaSharbaji from the Minister’s office.
It was also attended from the international side by Dr. Iyad Nasr, the resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Syria.
