Syria renews call for ending the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan

Violating the international law and the UN resolutions has characterized the Israeli occupation’s behavior in the occupied Palestinian territories and the occupied Syria Golan, Syria’s Permanent Representative at the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Ala said in a statement on Friday during the 48th session of the Human Rights Council titled “Human Rights Situation in Palestine and Other Occupied Arab Territories”.

He renewed Syria’s call for putting an end to the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan and to its crimes and aggressive acts against the Palestinian people.

“Israel continues with its illegal practices to perpetuate its occupation of Arab territories through establishing and expanding settlements, seizing more lands, stealing natural resources, committing crimes and displacing original residents of the lands within a plan to  make a systematic demographic change with complete disregard for the international law, Ala said.

He added that the Israeli occupation’s illegal measures and settlement building activities also continue in the occupied Syrian Golan, a behavior that violates the Geneva 4th Convention and the Security Council resolutions.

The citizens of Golan are confronting with strong determination these Israeli schemes that aim at displacing the Syrian citizens from their lands, building settlements around their villages and cities, stealing their natural resources in this area to serve the occupation’s settlement building activities, impeding agriculture and preventing the farmers from marketing  their agricultural production” he pointed out.

Ala went on to say that Syria again warns against the Israeli giant wind turbine project in the occupied Syrian Golan, as it will swallow 6000 dunums of agricultural land, owned by Syrian citizens, and it will besiege the citizens in limited residential areas and affect their livelihood which depends on agriculture.

Syria reiterates that stopping support for the Israeli settlement building plans and recognizing their harming effects is an important step to dismantle the Israeli settlement scheme which is associated with imposing a demographic change and committing grave violations of human rights as well as of the international humanitarian law.

He pointed out that Syria stresses the importance of Article No. VII of the international law  as an essential means to monitor and document the Israeli violations, expressing astonishment over the insistence of some countries, which claim protecting human rights, on opposing this article and adopting a double standards approach when it comes to the Israeli violations of human rights.

He renewed  Syria’s condemnation of the Israeli occupation’s crimes in occupied Palestine, as well as the continuation of the Israeli colonial settlement project, the racial practices towards the Palestinian people, stressing that Syria calls for stopping the Israeli aggression, on the Palestinians, lifting the inhuman siege on Gaza, releasing the Palestinian prisoners from the occupation jails  and  providing protection for the Palestinian people.

Syria is adherent to liberating the occupied Golan and to supporting the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state on the land occupied in 1967 with Al-Quds as its capital, Ala concluded.
