652 violations committed by Israeli occupation against Palestinian journalists since the beginning of the year
The Committee of Supporting Palestinian Journalists confirmed that the Israeli occupation has committed 652 violations against journalists since the beginning of this year, calling on the international community to compel the occupation to implement international laws that guarantee media freedom of movement and coverage without any pressure.
On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalist which falls on September 26 of each year, Ma’an News Agency quoted the committee as saying in a statement that the number of violations perpetrated by the occupation against Palestinian journalists has reached 652 since the beginning of this year. These violations during the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip last May resulted in the martyrdom of journalist Youssef Abu Hussein and the destruction of more than 59 media institutions.
The statement pointed out that the occupation targets Palestinian journalists in an attempt to silence their voice and prevent them from exposing the crimes of the occupation against the Palestinian people.
The statement called on the International Federation of Journalists and human rights organizations to pressure the occupation authorities to release 24 journalists detained in their jails and to work to provide serious and real support to Palestinian journalists and media outlets in the face of the Israeli escalating grave violations.
