Sudan thwarts an attempt by Ethiopian forces to enter its territory

On September 26th, Sudanese forces thwarted an attempt by Ethiopian forces to enter Sudanese territory.

The Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) quoted Brigadier General Taher Abuhaga, media advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, as saying that the armed forces thwarted the attempt  by the Ethiopian forces to infiltrate in the Umm Brakhit sector in the Al-Fashqa area and forced them to withdraw.

A dispute is taking place between Sudan and Ethiopia over the Al-Fashqa area in the Sudanese state of Gedaref.

Negotiations between the two governments reached a compromise in 2008, as Ethiopia recognized the legal borders, while Sudan allowed the Ethiopians to continue to live in that area, which is considered Sudanese territory without hindrance.
