China calls for establishing a democratic, equitable international order to protect human rights

GENEVA- A Chinese envoy on Monday told the UN Human Rights Council that a democratic and equitable international order is essential to the promotion and protection of human rights, According to Xinhua News Agency.

All parties should practice true multilateralism and make the international order more just and equitable, said Chen Xu, head of the Chinese Mission to UN at Geneva at the interactive dialogue with the UN independent expert on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order.

Chen, speaking on behalf of a group of countries, stressed the importance of the UN-centered international system and the international order underpinned by international law, and expressed opposition to bullying, unilateralism and double standards.

The Chinese ambassador called on all nations to pursue win-win cooperation, conduct dialogue and cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect, bridge differences through consultations and dialogue, achieve universal security through cooperation and promote common development and prosperity.

 He urged the parties to remain open and inclusive, respect the diversity of civilizations and the development paths independently chosen by countries, and refrain from imposing one’s own social system and model on others or creating division and confrontation.

“In the field of human rights, all parties should uphold the principles of universality, impartiality, objectivity and non-selectivity, strengthen solidarity, cooperation and dialogue on an equal footing, and refrain from politicizing human rights issues or interfering in other countries’ internal affairs,” he noted.

Chen also called on all countries to join hands in defending the common values of humanity, namely peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom, promoting and protecting human rights and building a community with a shared future for human beings.
