Industry Minister: SILA 2021 exhibition highlights the distinguished Syrian leather industries

The International Export Exhibition for Shoes, Leather Industries, and Production Requirements “SILA” /Autumn-Winter 2021/, has become a milestone of the leather industry in Syria, because every year, it exhibits new products that confirm the quality of the Syrian production and the creativity of the Syrian industry, Minister of Industry Subhi Sabbagh said yesterday during the opening of SILA, stressing the government’s full support for the industrial sector.

The 4-day “SILA 2021” kicked off on Sunday at Damascus Fairgrounds with the participation of more than 100 Syrian, Arab and foreign companies, displaying the latest designs of leather shoes, bags, jackets and other products produced by Syrian industrialists and craftsmen. It was organized by the Arab Union for Leather Industries in cooperation with the Unions of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of Industry.

Mohammad Kazara, Secretary General of the Arab Union for Leather Industries, said that specialized exhibitions create opportunities to export the Syrian products and bring together Arab importers and Syrian producers and industrialists to exchange expertise.

He pointed out that the Syrian products have proved their quality and competitiveness, expressing hope that through holding such exhibitions, the Syrian products will top the list in Arab markets, especially as 450 Arab businessmen have been invited to this event.

Samer Al-Dibs, Chairman of the Damascus Chamber of Industry, stressed that despite the war on Syria, the Syrian industrialists are still working steadfastly to defy all the difficult circumstances resulted from the war and the unfair economic blockade.

He clarified that the industrialists have managed to supply the local markets with different products and to export high quality and competitive goods.

Head of Aleppo Chamber of Commerce Amer Hamwi, on his part, said that the exhibitions and festivals held in Syria are important for the recovery and the reactivation of the Syrian economy, for meeting the need of the local market and for opening new export markets, mainly in Arab countries.

On his part, the Libyan Charge de Affairs in Damascus Abdul Salam Al-Mahdi Al-Ruqe’i said that the exhibition attracts many Libyan businessmen who realize the quality and competitiveness of the Syrian leather industries, especially the shoes.

He hoped that such exhibitions for Syrian products will be held in Libya, so that the Libyans can know more about the Syrian industry.
