Russian Diplomat: The European Parliament’s decision on the Russian elections is a blatant interference
The Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov stressed that the decision recently issued by the European Parliament regarding the Russian elections constitutes interference in Russia’s internal affairs.
Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a resolution presented by Lithuanian Prime Minister Andros Kopelos calling on the European Union to reconsider its relations with Russia.
“This document is a shining example of interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state, in the electoral process and in Russia’s political life. It works to discredit the Russian authorities and provides specific guidance on how Russia should amend its electoral legislation in a situation characterized by arrogance”, Tass quoted Chizhov as saying to reporters.
Chizhov pointed out that the attempts of this parliament to give lectures to the Russian people on how to choose their leaders represent an insult to the intelligence of our people and their ability to think independently, pointing out that the European Union countries can learn how to organize elections and ensure their transparency from Russia.
The head of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, confirmed on Friday that the European Parliament’s report, which incites pursuing a stricter policy and urges not to recognize the results of the Russian elections, is a hostile step, stressing that only the Russian people decide who will hand over power, and that pressure on them is unacceptable.
