The first flight of Pakistan International Airlines arrives at Damascus International Airport

Damascus (ST): The first flights of Pakistan International Airlines “PIA” from Karachi Airport arrived at Damascus International Airport this afternoon, marking the return of air traffic between the two countries, which had been suspended for more than twenty years.

The flight, which was carried by Pakistani Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Chargé d’Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Pakistan Mazen Obaid, President of Pakistan International Airlines and 286 passengers, came within the framework of re-operating flights from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad airports in Pakistan towards Damascus and vice versa.

In a statement to reporters, the Pakistani Minister of Aviation expressed his thanks to the leadership and people of Syria for the facilities it provided to execute this flight, pointing out that it is a first step and will be followed by other steps for cooperation in the field of flights between the two countries.

For his part, Minister of Transport, Engineer Zuhair Khuzaym, indicated in a similar statement that the trip is the first after a break of more than twenty years, and it is an important step for developing economic relations between the two countries, pointing out that there are a number of agreements in the field of transport that will be activated later.

The arrival of the plane was attended by the Pakistani ambassador in Damascus, Saeed Mohammad Khan.
