Means of enhancing Syrian-Russian cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research reviewed
Damascus, (ST) – The discussion session, which was held today at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, headed by the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, and the First Vice President of the Russian Novosibirsk Province, Yury Petukhov, focused on means of enhancing and developing joint scientific cooperation relations.
The two sides emphasized increasing cooperation in the field of scientific research, activating agreements between Syrian and Russian universities, enhancing permanent communication in this field. They also stressed their support for the teaching of the Russian language in Syria, and building capacities in medical, engineering and other sciences.
Minister Ibrahim praised the distinguished relations between Syria and Russia at all levels, expressing his hope to sign more scientific cooperation agreements with Russian universities, especially Novosibirsk University, which teaches technical and modern biological sciences, earth sciences and geology.
He also expressed his hope of a joint cooperation between the two sides in supervising postgraduate students in master’s and doctoral studies and exchanging professors and increasing scholarships.
In turn, Petukhov affirmed readiness to accept Syrian students wishing to study in Russia, whether at the undergraduate or postgraduate levels. He pointed out that his country is ready to provide full support for forming an infrastructure for new technologies and advanced engineering centers in Syria.
