Syria appeals to HRC to put an end to Turkish regime’s crimes in Syria

GENEVA, (ST)_Syria’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hussam Al-Din Ala,  has appealed to the Human Rights’ Council and the High Commissioner to put an end to the practices of the Turkish regime which uses water as a weapon and collective punishment in its aggression on Syria.

 

In a briefing to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights at the 48th session of HR Council, Ala said that the Turkish regime’s acts that mount to crimes against humanity make millions of Syrians face catastrophic humanitarian conditions, which threaten their basic rights in the fields of health services , food , water ,electricity and development.

 

He called for dealing with human rights situations in an objective and neutral way that respect the UN charter and based on constructive dialogue and cooperation. 

 

Ambassador Ala added that in light of Covid-19 pandemic, special attention must be paid to the economic, social and cultural rights, particularly the right to development and the challenges related to the escalation of racism and racial discrimination and the negative repercussions of unilateral coercive measures on human rights, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).

 

He referred to the western countries’ ignorance of calls for international cooperation and solidarity to face the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic. 

The ambassador also commented on the  briefing of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, by asserting the importance of water as a first frontline in fighting the pandemic. 

 

He concluded by saying: “Syria calls on the High Commissioner to give more attention to the violations and arbitrary practices committed by the Israeli occupation entity against Syrians in the occupied Golan.”
