Palestinian PM urges UN to force Israel to abide by international conventions regarding Palestinian prisoners
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh on Monday called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations to follow up on the conditions of the Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails to make sure that they are not subjected to torture and abuse, and to compel Israel to implement the Third Geneva Convention relating to the prisoners.
Shtayyeh was speaking during the weekly meeting of the Palestinian Cabinet on Monday in Ramallah and in the light of Israel’s capture of four of the six Palestinian prisoners who were able to liberate themselves from Gilboa prison last week.
Reports said that the prisoners were severely beaten and at least one of them needs to be hospitalized.
