New York, (ST) – The United Nations called on the Libyan parties to unite their forces to ensure the holding of free and fair parliamentary and presidential elections.
The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to Libya, Jan Kubis, said during a briefing to the UN Security Council via video technology that, the United Nations mission in Libya will continue to support efforts that lead to achieving unity and stability in Libya. He added that holding the elections even in a situation that is less than ideal and with all the challenges, is much more acceptable than no elections.”
Since the aggression of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in 2011, Libya has been in a state of chaos in light of the proliferation of weapons, terrorist organizations, divisions and a struggle for power.
