The very specific purpose of Russia’s presence in Syria is to fight terrorism, says Shoigu

Moscow, (ST) – Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu affirmed that Russia is not trying to impose its way of life, values and rules on other countries, as the United States does. He pointed out that his country looks with respect and attention to the peculiarities of other countries.

RIA Novosti News Agency quoted Shoigu as saying on Sunday that, “Russia, when carrying out tasks in other countries, always makes clear to its partners that its main goal is to support these countries and not to impose new powers in these countries.

He added that, we do not impose our way of life on anyone, and when we went to Syria, we went with very specific goals of fighting terrorists

Shoigu pointed out that the terrorists in Syria are well trained, and said that, when we started working in Syria, we quickly realized that these technologies come from Iraq.

He indicated that, among those who fight in the ranks of the terrorists are professional soldiers from the former Iraqi army who were trained and educated in the Soviet Union.

On September 30, 2015, the Russian Air Force began a military operation in Syria at the request of the Syrian government to support the efforts of the Syrian Arab Army in its battle against terrorism.
