Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian arrived in Damascus on Sunday to hold talks with senior Syrian officials on bilateral ties and regional developments.
Upon his arrival at the Damascus International Airport, Abdollahian told reporters: “we are here in Damascus to discuss mutual relations including economic, trade and cultural relations. We are certian that the two countries will work together and take great steps to face economic terrorism and to alleviate the pressures on our two peoples.”
He pointed out that the relations between Tehran, Damascus and Baghdad are strategic relations.
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad said that the two sides will discuss key issues related to the relations between the two countries and the latest regional and international developments, especially after the latest developments in Afghanistan.
He extended congratulations to the visiting Iranian minister on his assumption of the post of foreign minister in Iran.
Minister Abdollahian’s visit comes after his participation in the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership held yesterday.
