Isco: “I paid attention to Zidane when I was young”

“Today is the most important day of my career. Setting foot in the Bernabeu and having so many people waiting for you is a huge honour”, said the player from Malaga in an interview with Realmadrid TV and Realmadrid.com

Isco spoke with Realmadrid TV and Realmadrid.com after his unveiling in the Directors’ Box and his first press conference as a Real player: “It’s not every day that you sign with the best squad in the world. Today is the most important day of my career. Putting on the Real shirt is something that you don’t imagine even in your wildest dreams. Setting foot in the Bernabeu and having so many people waiting for you is a huge honour. Real Madrid is as big and as good as it gets”. The new Real player also took the opportunity to thank Florentino Perez for his support: “He’s been very good to me from the start. I appreciate all his support and the trust he’s placed in me. Now I have to give it back on the pitch”.

Today is a very important day for Real Madrid and I imagine that it is for you as well.

It’s not every day that you sign with the best squad in the world. Today is the most important day of my career. I’m very happy to be here.

Your family is here to share this special day. What are your loved ones’ impressions about your move to Real Madrid?

Everyone is really happy that I made it here. Everyone has come, they’ve never failed me, and they’ve always been with me wherever I go. I have to thank them for the effort and dedication they’ve always had. It’s a pleasure to be here.

A lot of people from Malaga have come as well. You left your mark there…

It’s been two great years in Malaga. We made history in a team that wasn’t used to experiencing what it experienced. I’m happy and proud to be here today.

You’ve made excellent progress in just three years. And now you’ve signed with Real Madrid. How do you feel?

It’s a little dizzying because three years ago I was in 3rd division and now I’m here in Real Madrid and it’s hard to assimilate.

Who taught you to play football?

My brother had a lot to do with it; ever since I was really little he’d take me to play with his much older friends. He’s the one who started all this.

When you started to play football with your local team, who realised that you were ready to take the leap?

I had received a few offers and there were people who told me to leave, but I wanted to stay where I was playing football with my friends. I was 12, I knew how to wait for my moment and from there I went to Valencia.
