Ambassador of Democratic Korea in Damascus: US-South Korean military drills undermine the stability of the Korean Peninsula
The Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK) Mun Jong Nam has stressed that the recently launched US-South Korean military drills undermine the stability of the Korean Peninsula and put it at risk, affirming that the current international situation requires strengthening cooperation among all independent states to face the US hegemony and arbitrariness.
The United States and South Korea began joint military exercises on August 10. These drills contribute to the further destabilization of the situation in the Korean peninsula and they have been denounced and rejected both inside and outside Democratic Korea.
Jong Nam said that the Workers Party of Democratic Korea issued a statement clarifying its principled stance that rejects these military drills.
“The dangerous war games that the United States and South Korea have dared to hold despite our repeated warnings will inevitably make them face the most dangerous security threat. These exercises express the US hostile policy toward the DPRK that aims at destroying our country and they are bad deeds that will never be welcomed as they threaten the security of our people and put the Korean peninsula at risk,” he added.
He pointed out that the aggressive nature of these joint military exercises lies in the fact that they constitute an “experimental war and preparatory maneuvers for a nuclear war.”
The Korean diplomat clarified that the United States claims that these military exercises are defensive.
“These claims are nothing but sophistry that no one trusts, as the recent US policies make us know that Washington will continue its aggressive military actions against the countries of Asia, the Pacific and the Middle East,” he pointed out.
Jong Nam condemned the US conspiracy against Syria and the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Washington on the Syrians. He also condemned Washington’s relentless efforts to violate Syria’s sovereignty, to systematically destroy Syria’s economic infrastructure and to steal its oil, wheat, cotton and other natural resources.
He also condemned the US-backed Zionist occupation’s attacks on Syria.
Jong Nam reiterated democratic Korea’s firm stance on supporting Syria and the Syrian people in their struggle to preserve the country’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity in the face of all kinds of aggression, challenges and conspiracies hatched by hostile forces, mainly the United States.
