Iraq launches wide-scale security operation against ISIS terrorist cells north of Baghdad

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) announced the launch of a major security operation to pursue the terrorists and clear areas in the north of Baghdad.

The spokesman for the JOC, Major General Tahsin Al-Khafaji, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that in accordance with the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and based on accurate intelligence information, a major security operation was launched in cooperation with Baghdad Operations Command to prevent the infiltration of terrorists in the areas, including Tarmiyah area.

Al-Khafaji added that the security operation carried out by Baghdad Operations Command in the area of the 59th Brigade is important and aims to pursue the active terrorist cells in that area to eliminate the presence of terrorists in it, pointing out that the operation will continue until it achieves its designed goals.

 Al-Khafaji also mentioned that the Joint Operations Command, in cooperation with the Baghdad Operations Command, will prepare security plans to prevent terrorist infiltration in the regions, and to preserve the power towers from sabotage acts.
