Guterres: Complete disposal of nuclear weapons is the guarantee that they will not be used again

Geneva (ST): UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on the countries of the world to strengthen efforts to make the world free of nuclear weapons, stressing that the only guarantee against the use of this type of weapon is to get rid of them completely.

The United Nations News Center quoted Guterres as saying  in a video message on the occasion of the anniversary of the United States dropping the atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, “76 years ago, an atomic weapon caused unimaginable suffering to the residents of this city, as tens of thousands of residents were killed at the moment the bomb was dropped and dozens of thousands in its wake and many more in subsequent years.”

On August 6, 1945, the administration of US President Harry Truman ordered the dropping of the atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, to be one of the most heinous and brutal crimes committed by the United States, which still bears witness to Washington’s crimes and atrocities against peoples and humanity around the world.
