Representing President Bashar Al-Assad, Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hammouda Sabbagh on Wednesday congratulated on behalf of the Syrian people and their leadership the Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi on the occasion of his assumption of power.
Iranian President conveyed his greetings to President al-Assad and the Syrian people, hoping Syria and its people to enjoy security and stability.
He referred to the development of political and economic relations between Tehran and Damascus to serve the interests of the two countries.
The Iranian president praised the steadfastness of the Syrian people, their leadership and their courageous resistance to Western terrorism and their victory in the face of terrorism thanks to the sacrifices of the martyrs, including the martyr Lieutenant-General Qassem Soleimani, commander of Al- Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Raisi underlined the importance of the exit of the illegal foreign forces fron Syrian territories as soon as possible so that the Syrian people can begin the reconstruction process.
For his part, Sabbagh stressed that the Syrian-Iranian relations are strong and deeply rooted and cannot be undermined, pointing out that the participation of Syria and Iran in the joint battle against terrorism constituted the most important factor in achieving victory over terrorism.
Sabbagh highlighted the need to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, especially economic ones, reiterating that the Syrian people will never forget the Iranian people’s support for Syria in fighting terrorism and in various political and economic fields.
The meeting was attended by the Syrian Ambassador in Tehran, Dr. Shafiq Daiop, and the delegation accompanying the Speaker of the People’s Assembly.
Sabbagh had discussed with the Speaker of the Islamic Shoura Council Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf ways to develop joint cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of parliamentary cooperation.
Sabbagh underlined the need to boost and develop relations in various fields, especially economic and trade cooperation. He confirmed the importance of achieving what was agreed upon during Qalibaf’s visit to Damascus, following up on that by the parliaments of the two countries, and giving the relations practicality to reach results that serve the interests of the two friendly peoples and countries.
The two sides affirmed their firm determination to continue coordination and work to achieve the best desired results and achieve a qualitative leap in developing economic relations in light of the pressures and unjust coercive unilateral sanctions that the two countries are subjected to.
In addition, the Syrian-Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Committee a meeting that focused on the ways of enhancing and developing parliamentary, economic and cultural cooperation, as required by the current stage due to the challenges that the two countries are facing .
