The joint Syrian-Iranian Chamber of Commerce exerts every possible effort to increase the value of trade exchange [$150 million] and improve industrial, investment and economic cooperation between Syria and Iran to reach the level of strategic political and strategic relations.
According to the chairman of the joint chamber of commerce Fahd Darwish, the role of private sector have been on the table in the agenda of all Syrian-Iranian economic meetings held in Damascus or Tehran since the beginning of 2021.
The chamber of commerce has suggested many solutions to remove the obstacles that face the increment of trade exchange, Darwish said in an interview with Damascus-based Al-Watan newspaper.
Among these suggestions are:
- Forming a committee to unify the standards of exportation and importation.
- Establishing joint bank.
- Using local currencies in trade exchange.
- Establishing joint currency exchange company and insurance company.
- Activating Land Freight transportation through Iraq.
- Organizing the timetable of sea shipping between Lattakia and Bander Abbas ports.
- Implementing goods bartering system.
The other suggestions are related to establishing investment companies in the fields of industrial investment and renewable energy and holding 4 exhibitions for Syrian goods in Iran and investment forum to rehabilitate damaged public and private facilities.
In March Director-General of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization’s (TPO) Office of Arabian and African Countries, Farzad Piltan, announced a plan to increase the trade exchange with Syria up to 1.5 billion dollars throughout the coming three years.
