Syria, Russia discuss media cooperation to confront the war of disinformation
On July 28th, Minister of Information in the caretaker government Imad Sarah affirmed the ministry’s readiness to develop media cooperation with Russian media institutions, especially amid the rapid development taking place in the media and communication.
During his meeting with a Russian media delegation from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Development and a number of Russian media outlets, Sarah pointed out the importance of this cooperation to confront the media misinformation war that targets the two countries.
Sarah referred to the need to raise the level of cooperation in the media sector and intensify the exchange of experiences, qualification and training.
The minister said: “As we succeeded militarily with our allies in Russia, we will succeed in the media.”
He referred to the importance of the media conveying the truth to Russian and international public opinion about what is happening in Syria, especially the crime of siege and economic sanctions imposed by some Western countries against Syria.
For her part, Director of the Department of International Cooperation in the Ministry of Communication and Digital Development in Russia, Larina Ekaterina, stressed the importance of sharing and exchanging information.
She said that many global events are reported inaccurately, especially through social media, so we look forward to building a media partnership to enhance the exchange of information directly to convey the true events to Russian and world public opinion.
At the end of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the General Authority for Radio and Television in Syria and the Russian Sputnik Agency, laying the appropriate ground for cooperation between the two sides.
